MATCH PREVIEW: Crawley Town vs Swindon

Swindon Town return from a two-week break looking to get over a disappointing defeat last time out as they travel to Crawley Town. Total Sport’s Joe Acklam previews the League Two clash.

Town are now winless in their last two following a home double header against Tranmere Rovers and Crewe Alexandra, prior to going into this two-week break.

Scott Lindsey said that the team have gone away following the frustration on the Crewe defeat and have used their time off wisely.

He said: “We have tried to get a balance between giving some players a bit of rest, which was needed, and doing some real hard work on the training ground.

“We really thought hard about how to get that balance and we believe we have got that, and training has been good leading into Saturday’s game.

“I think there is still more to be done, last game we had 56 box entries, 35 from the right, 17 from the left and four through the middle.

“I think there are spaces for us to play through the middle more and I don’t want to be a team that relies solely on Remeao Hutton crossing the ball.

“I think there are other spaces and other ways to create the chances and score more goals.”

Swindon face Crawley at a time of change as rookie manager Matthew Etherington was appointed this week, and Lindsey thinks this creates some problems for Swindon.

He said: “I think the main thing we can see is to look at formations he [Etherington] has played, look at trends to see if he has played that formation every time he has managed.

“Then maybe that might something he does with Crawley, we don’t know until we get the team sheet and even then we probably won’t know as there will be names on there that can play in different slots.

“We have certainly done our digging, whether that digging will help or not we don’t know, but we have certainly tried.

“What I have done is used this week as a week to be productive and concentrate on us, more so than usual.

“It is important that we continue to do that as we are not sure what they are going to do, the one thing we can do is really nail down what we are going to do.”

Crawley have one match in their last season across all competitions and have struggled despite pre-season hopes of a strong season for the Red Devils.

However, they have proved to be something of a bogey team for Swindon since their promotion into the Football League in 2011, as Swindon have only beaten them once since 2013.
