Malasinski deal could lure big names to Swindon Wildcats

Following last week's huge announcement from the Swindon Wildcats' camp, of import Tomasz Malasinski signing a new two year deal with the Wiltshire club, head coach Aaron Nell admits such a coup may well serve as a bargaining chip to attract future talent.

With the Pole putting pen to paper on a new two year deal, the Wildcats will be graced with the presence of their star man for the foreseeable future, and Nell believes this could be instrumental in bringing other personnel into the Cats' ranks.

"I think there won't be many more respected players in our league than Tomasz and to be able to keep him is massive," Nell began.

"With Swindon sometimes it's tough to get players here because we're away from the players by London but once people get here they do enjoy it and Tomasz and Jan (Kostal) and Stevie Lyle and Hoogy (Jonas Hoog) they all show that people like to be here once they get here, and that's something we need to keep on building."

By securing the Polish forward's immediate future, the Wildcats have made clear their intent to have the league's best players plying their trade at the Link Centre. Nell admitted with Malasinski, few rival clubs would turn down the opportunity to have the marksman on their roster.

"Tomasz is a player that every team in our league would take that's for sure and there would have been a lot of coaching staff who would have loved to have Tomasz on the team, he can do anything," said Nell.

"He scores, he plays a good two-way game, he works hard, he skates well, he can just do everything and we're very lucky that we've got him in Swindon and now he likes it, he wants to stay," he added.

The deal to bring Malasinski back to SN5 was a relatively simple one, but the player's affection for Swindon along with his relationship were both key factors in keeping the forward in Wiltshire.

"We had a good chat and he wanted to wait until after the World Championships and obviously concentrate on that and on the end of the season and once the World Championships were over he was very clear with what he wanted to do and we were very lucky that he wants to be here in Swindon," said Nell.

"The fans have been great with him and he likes the club so hopefully it will continue to be good for him, and for us we're ecstatic," he added.
