Jody Morris labelled Swindon fans immature during their 3-0 win against Harrogate

Jody Morris labelled Swindon Town fans “immature” after early booing was heard during their 3-0 win against Harrogate Town. Total Sport’s Joe Acklam spoke to the head coach after the match.

Rushian Hepburn-Murphy bagged a first half brace and Joe Tomlinson came off the bench to add a third as Swindon dealt with a struggling Harrogate team, although some fans lost patience early with the way Town were keeping possession

Morris felt that although he did agree with the sentiment behind the booing, it was not the right way to achieve their desired outcome.

He said: “We did talk about getting off to a real good start because we have conceded early before, but it was also as we wanted to grab hold of the game.

“There were moments early on where I thought the crowd were getting onto them harshly for making too many passes.

“I do actually mirror the feelings of the fans sometimes; they are right on some occasions but wrong on some others.

“I thought it was pretty immature to be booing that early in the game, but I actually do agree with some of the sentiment behind it, but I don't agree with the booing.

“That is the beauty of football, we all have our own opinions, but I don’t agree with the act of booing that early.

“A lot of it is things that I said at half-time about how we were about turning down passes and good opportunities to go forward.

“It is sometimes to do with confidence, why they turn down forward passes, and that is one of the reasons why I am against the booing as that can impact their confidence.

“So you actually have a detrimental effect, rather than what you want.”

Morris was, however, to see Hepburn-Murphy get on the scoresheet in ways that he hasn’t even seen on the training ground.

He said: “Rush [Hepburn-Murphy] has worked really hard in training even though he has been suspended and that was the reason he started today.

“Because of how hard he has been working and the way he has been taking on board the messages and I think that is where you get your just rewards.

“I am not sure many of you will have seen him scoring a header before, I haven’t even seen it on the  training ground.

“So to see that was nice and then for him to get his second as well, even if it is not the cleanest finish you will ever see.

“Sometimes when you are putting in the hard work you get those little moments that will go for you.”
