Jody Morris agreed with the frustrated fans as Swindon lost at home against Doncaster

Jody Morris said that he agreed with annoyed fans as Swindon failed to perform in a 2-0 home loss against Doncaster. Total Sport’s Joe Acklam spoke to the head coach after the game.

Swindon were made to pay for a sluggish performance as Luke Molyneux bagged a brace in three second half minutes to condemn Town to defeat.

Morris said he was happy for fans to voice their opinion in a constructive manner when they are coming to support the team and that he often agreed with their sentiment.

He said: “I am all for the fans voicing their opinion, and there are elements where I feel like it is a little bit early for that [boos].

“But to be fair to the fans, this is mid-February for them and they obviously want their team to do better.

“I think anybody that is coming to this football club and is paying their hard-earned money, it is fair game for them to voice their opinions, as long as they voice it the right way.

“Sometimes getting booed off at the end of the game is not the worst thing because we have come off the pitch conceding two really poor goals.

“There are parts of the game where, even though I can’t boo as a manager, I am agreeing with quite a lot of what is being said around the stadium.”

Morris said that when started to get into a rhythm they would make small errors that stalled any progress they were starting to make.

He said: “I felt like we were trying to do the right things, but when we looked like we might start to get in a rhythm, I felt there were unforced errors happening far too often.

“That meant we couldn’t get up the pitch, because when we get further up the pitch there was a mis control, or a poor pass and we couldn’t get up the pitch.

“We mixed our game up better in the second half and we looked a better team, but when you are on top you have to capitalise.

“Then they don’t have to work very hard to go up our end and get a shot off, when we are having to work so much harder to get up their end.

“Sometimes you do get an element when you are giving players new messages that they take them a little bit too literally.

“I said to the players at half-time that I want you to look after the ball better than we did at Newport, but that doesn’t mean we just play passes around the back.

“We need to mix our game up and turn teams around to face their own goal at times, but that needs to come from quality runs and quality passing, and we were choosing the wrong pass when there was chances to hurt them.”
