'They stuck by us' - Glatzel says Swindon fans deserved victory over Notts County

Goalscorer Paul Glatzel hailed the support of Swindon Town’s fans and said they “deserved more than anything” the victory over Notts County.

The forward was speaking after netting what proved to be the winner, after Gavin Gunning’s men sealed a 2-1 win at The County Ground.

The success meant Town ended a run of three straight defeats and moved up to 19th in League Two.

Speaking about the home support on Good Friday, Glatzel told the club’s official YouTube channel: “They stuck by us. Obviously we haven’t been great recently but they’ve come in again in their numbers and got behind us.

“We felt that and it helped us going forward. We got the three points we deserve but the fans deserved more than anything, because obviously they turn up every week.

“I’m just glad we got the three points and hopefully we can kick on now.”

Both of Town’s goals came from capitalising on mistakes from Notts County, the first coming on 19 minutes.

Defender Scott Robertson sent a wayward pass back to keeper Sam Slocombe which bounced off the post. Aaron Drinan was on hand to gather and apply a cool finish to put Swindon ahead.

Slocombe then gifted possession to Glatzel in a dangerous area 17 minutes from time – the former Liverpool man chipping the keeper to double his side’s advantage.

Alassana Jatta pulled a goal back for County late on but his strike proved a consolation for the visitors.

“The boys stuck together well, there were times in the game where we had to dig in, we did that together well and we got the result we needed,” added Glatzel.

“We knew they like to play out from the back, so we set up to get after them and make it difficult for them. We stuck to the game plan well, profited twice from that, scored the goal and won the game.”

Swindon’s next test comes at Sutton United on Easter Monday (3pm).
