Floyd Taylor returns to Swindon Wildcats for 2016/17 season

Powerhouse forward Floyd Taylor has given the Swindon Wildcats a boost after agreeing to return for the 2016/17 campaign, becoming the 18th signing of the off season for Aaron Nell's side.

The 21-year-old has put pen to paper on a new one-year deal with his boyhood club and will now embark on his sixth season with the Cats.

Taylor enjoyed a fine 2015/16 campaign and posted 3 goals and 4 assists for 7 points in 54 outings.

But it was the youngster's impressive physical play and desire to leave it all out on the ice that stood out the most, making the decision to hand him a new contract an easy one for player/coach Aaron Nell.

"I'm very happy to have Floyd back in our line-up for next season," Nell told swindonwildcats.com.

"Floyd is Swindon through and through and he loves playing for his hometown club. He's a great player to have in the dressing room and around the club.

"I believe there's a lot more to come from Floyd. He's a physical player who, when he's at his best, is intimidating to play against.

"When he plays like that he gives the team and the crowd an awful lot of energy and makes us very tough to play against.

"Floyd is in way better shape than this time last year and this will help the team and also his own personal performance.

"I know he can't wait to get started again."

Taylor began his career with the Swindon Leopards back in 2007 and quickly rose through the ranks of the Wildcats Academy, representing England at both U16 and U18 level along the way.

After making his senior debut for the Wildcats during the 2011/12 season - where he finished with 29 EPIHL games under his belt - Taylor has established himself as a key physical presence alongside the likes of Sam Bullas and Jan Kostal.

Having racked up the most games in his senior career at club level last term, Taylor is now determined to kick-on and help steer the Wildcats to success in 16/17.

"I'm very happy to have come back because I've been playing in Swindon since I was three-years-old having come through the junior ranks, and to play for your senior team is quite an achievement," he said.

"Swindon is going to be up there because Aaron has signed a good team.

"Hopefully I can contribute with a few more goals and assists and I'm sure my physical side will be back.

"I scored a lot of junior points in my junior career but I'm still quite young and I would like to start getting more points and helping the team out with more goals.

"Hopefully we can make it to Coventry this season and go all the way - there's no reason why we can't."

Floyd becomes the 18th signing of the off-season for the Wildcats, who now have just two roster spaces left to fill for the 2016/17 season.
