Devoy admits he's not sure about his future after striking twice for Swindon

Midfielder Dawson Devoy insisted he did not know what the situation was regarding his future.

The 22-year-old came off the bench at half-time for loan club Swindon on Saturday, scoring twice as Gavin Gunning’s side recorded a 3-2 victory over AFC Wimbledon at the County Ground.

It was his first brace in professional football and second and third goals since joining Swindon on loan from MK Dons in January.

Devoy signed for MK back in July 2022, penning a long-term contract with the League Two outfit.

Asked about his contract status and future, Devoy told BBC Radio Wiltshire: “I’m not sure to be fair. I know I have to go back to MK in June and see what happens there.

“They’re obviously fighting for promotion at the minute, so it’s a bit frantic but I’m not sure is my honest answer.

“Every footballer wants to play every week, so I’ll be looking to try to do that in the summer, wherever that may be.”

Devoy’s double came alongside Aaron Drinan’s second-half goal as Town made it three wins out of four – despite Udoka Godwin-Malife’s late sending off.

“It was a nice feeling to get two goals and more importantly getting the three points was the main thing. It was a really good day,” said Republic of Ireland under-21 international Devoy.

“When I first came in I was playing a bit higher up the pitch and injuries probably dropped me back a bit deeper.

“But I’m always looking to score. As a midfielder I’m always looking to get goals and assists, so it’s definitely something I am looking to add to my game.

“We showed great character towards the end of the game, threw bodies on the line and you have to do that in League Two to get results.

“I think we did that and deserved the three points.

“We would have liked to have had a better season but, coming to the end now, we want to give the fans something to shout about.”
