Austin: I don’t know if I’ll be back or not

Swindon Town captain Charlie Austin admitted he did not know what the future held for him at the club following the end of the season.

The prolific striker scored twice as Town finished their campaign with a pulsating 3-3 draw against Morecambe at the County Ground.

Williams Kokolo was also on target in the second half but Gavin Gunning’s side were left to settle for a share of the spoils, after Cameron Smith scored for the visitors four minutes from time.

Talking to BBC Radio Wiltshire about his goals, taking him to 201 in professional football, Austin said: “Just right place, right time, a good ball in from Seany Mac (Sean McGurk), goal. Then a good ball from Frazer (Blake-Tracy).

“I’m delighted to score two, just a shame we couldn’t end on a high but that’s the season.

“It’s 201 to me, 203 on Sky, I don’t really know! But it’s nice to put it to bed and finally get there, so I’m delighted.”

The point left Swindon Town to finish the League Two campaign in 19th spot, with 54 points from their 46 games.

Interim head coach Gavin Gunning has been in charge since January, having taken over from sacked Michael Flynn.

Put to him about the managerial situation, Austin was not interested and remained coy about his own future.

“All that kind of stuff is kind way over my stuff now,” he said. “I’ll enjoy this now because I don’t know if I’ll be back or not.”
