Morrisons' New Swindon Store In Regent’s Circus Creates 180 New Jobs

Morrisons new Regent’s Circus store has opened today creating 180 new jobs - of those given a job, over a third were previously unemployed.

Morrisons' new store in the Swindon town centre is a Craft Skills Academy with staff trained in a number of traditional skills like butchery, fishmongery and flower arranging. The layout of the store is designed to bring the Morrisons difference to life for customers who'll be able to see fresh meat and fish prepares on the counter.

The store includes new misting technology, used to optimise the freshness of the food on offer in the ‘fresh market’ which stocks everything from carrots to tinkerbell peppers and yellow courgettes. The store also features a continental style deli counter, which will feature 140 cuts of meat in the butchery and an unparalleled array of more than 80 cheeses from around the UK and beyond. The bakery will feature up to 48 varieties of bread baked fresh throughout the day.

As part of the Craft Skills Academy, the Morrisons team at Regent’s Circus have gone through intensive training on product knowledge so that they'll be able to advise customers and suggest cooking tips, food combinations and matching wines.

The new store also boasts a new Flower Shop offering a range of beautiful flowers and plants for all occasions and budgets, a new ‘create your own’ Pizza Counter, plus the Morrisons' own Nutmeg range of clothing for boys and girls aged under 5 years. In addition to this, a new Morrisons café with free wi-fi is also being opened.

Richard McCann, Store General Manager, said: “Our new store is right in the heart of Swindon’s town centre, meaning our customers won’t have to stop anywhere else on the way home.

“We wanted to create an experience that was different from other supermarkets, offering customers a fantastic range of fresh products at great value and excellent customer service. The team have worked hard to train as specialists in areas such as wine, butchery and bakery and the fresh market concept means that many products are created by these specialists in-store each morning.”

“We’re delighted that, as a result of this new store opening, we have helped create new jobs in the local area, and are now looking forward to welcoming new shoppers into our Swindon store.”

Helen Reynolds – Area Manager for Sue Ryder, Morrisons national charity partner -opened the store and was attended by The Mayor of Swindon Teresa Page.
