Not Just Your Average Store Opening, this is an M&S Store Opening

Shoppers turned out in their droves this morning to attend the grand opening of Simply Food in Swindon.

The brand new store, located on Mannington Retail Park was officially launched with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10am.

Eager shoppers were already queuing up outside well before, keen to be the first to pick up M&S favourites including Percy Pigs, freshly baked pastries and the ever popular 2 for £10 meal deal.

On arrival, visitors enjoyed a complimentary glass of Prosecco before embarking on their highly anticipated shopping sprees. 

As part of the celebrations, customers who stepped through the doors between noon and 2pm were given chance of winning a share of £1,000 in M&S gift vouchers courtesy of Jack FM. 

The new Simply Food has not only delighted local foodies but has given Swindon's economy a boost too. The new store has bought over 70 new jobs to the area, including the role of Store Manager for 28-year-old Chris Hughes.

Chris said of his new role: “It’s a real privilege to be a part of this exciting new store, Swindon is a great place and we're in a fantastic location, I'm looking forward to what the future holds for my team and I. 

"I've never worked with such a large group of people before so I'm looking forward to the challenges that will come with my new role.

“I'm proud to say that the majority of our 70 employees live in Swindon. Because we want to be a part of the community it was really important for the store to employ local people."

As well as offering customers over 4,500 quality food and drink lines, M&S is home to a 48-seat Cafe and an in-store Bakery.

M&S customer Margaret New was thrilled when she found out the new store was opening in Swindon: "A Simply Food has been long overdue, I'm so happy that Swindon finally has a dedicated M&S store for food and drink. Today will certainly be the first of many visits".

Customers will also be able to find a fantastic selection of flowers, cards and gift wrap available.

The store will be open from 8am to 8pm Monday to Saturday, and 11am to 5pm on Sunday.
