Tips for Condensation Management

It’s the season for condensation. Several times a week I look at damp issues which have condensation as a controlling factor. Three very short and simple tips for condensation management.

Low and slow - heating used on lower temps for long periods of time help to keep wall surfaces warm and is better than short intermittent bursts of high temps. Warm wall surfaces are key to preventing sub dew point temps!

Extraction - Ideally all of your wet rooms ie kitchens, bathrooms and utilities should have an extractor fan system. I find a good dMEV to be one of the most effective systems for a typical domestic house situation.

Background - Ventilation trickle vents are a great way to get some airflow through your house, especially when doubled up with a good extraction system. Make sure you clean those cobwebs out though as this will restrict air flow!

One thing to know that all houses suffer from condensation, old and new. Manage it correctly and you avoid experiencing the nasty stuff which comes with it like mould growth!
