Swindon's Third Collective Switching Scheme Hopes to Shave Pounds off People’s Energy Bills

Everyone in Swindon is invited to take part in the town’s third collective switching scheme which has a track record of cutting resident’s bills by more than £100 a year.

Residents can register interest online here from Monday 12th May in the initiative, which last time saved nearly 90% of participants an average of £172 per year.

Darren Wallis, from Upper Stratton, managed to bag an even bigger saving and is now pocketing an annual reduction of £300.

The 31-year-old business analyst said: “I’m extremely pleased. I’ve made a really good saving with no hassle whatsoever. The whole process was very quick and easy – it was all done for me. This is my first house, but it hasn’t taken me long to realise that prices are going up for everything and it’s hard to keep track of it all. I am delighted with the result because even freezing your bill in the current climate would be a result. It’s rare to see one of your outgoings actually go down so much and I’ve already been telling my family.”

Registration in the scheme, run in partnership with ichoosr and involving councils across the country, closes on Monday 9th June. It’s quick, easy and, most importantly, you’re under no obligation to accept the offer. Anyone without internet access can also join in by visiting the Council’s One Stop Shop on Beckhampton Street or calling: 01793 445500

Using people power to cut prices, the scheme works by using the combined buying power of residents from the Borough and across the country to negotiate cheaper tariffs with energy companies. Rather than switching provider as an individual, residents register to switch and save as a large group all at the same time to achieve economies of scale.

Supporting the economy, small to medium-sized businesses can benefit too from the money-saving initiative and receive bespoke advice about switching.

People are also encouraged to tell their family and friends, as the more people who join in the greater the potential savings and you don’t even need to live in the Borough to take part.
