Hobbies for fitness, money and creativity
“A hobby, an activity that is done regularly for enjoyment.”
Historically hobbies in England were reserved to collecting, embroidering or knitting. However, today the way in which we view, and approach hobbies has changed in response to our lifestyles and our limited free time.
It is suggested you should find three hobbies that you love:
One to make you money
One to keep you fit
One to be creative
But, how can you fit a range of hobbies into a busy lifestyle and where should you begin the search? Here, are five points to consider;
1/ Pause and take a moment to decide what matters
Hobbies are meant to be fun not a chore. Therefore, do not succumb to societal expectation. Pursue your passion however obscure. By doing so, you are far more likely to be rewarded. And, let’s be honest we all love a trailblazer.
2/ Look to your local area and community
There is an abundance of groups, and events occurring all over Swindon from performing arts associations, walking clubs and historical societies. Dependent on your interest, local libraries, community halls and parks can provide information on the latest groups. Why not explore what’s on offer?
3/ Change your mindset
“Have no fear of perfection—you’ll never reach it.” – Salvador Dali Be creative with both your ideas and time. A hobby could be an evening college course in furniture restoration, life drawing or cooking. Or, it could be writing a short story on your lunch break. Creative hobbies benefit mental health by relieving stress, boosting self-esteem and even helping improve memory.
4/Challenge yourself
Fitness is a goal for many especially in a post-festive period winter lull. As an alternative to punishing yourself with a strict diet and workout regime, why not use a hobby to help you achieve your target? Take up a sport, ice skating lessons or a dance class. By changing your aim into a hobby, you add an element of fun, apply a consistent approach and increase incentive.
5/ Play to your strengths
For, those looking to monetise their hobbies, it is important to have a passion for your pastime and willingness to devote additional time to it for an income. Money making hobbies range from baking, writing, flower arranging, photography and crafts. All of which can be if the individual chooses too, turned into full-time businesses. Termed as “side hustles” money earning hobbies are big business in 2019. Always ensure you research before committing time and money to your idea.
Have fun on your search for a hobby. And remember whatever you choose to do that enjoyment should be central to your pursuit whatever its purpose; fitness, money or creativity.
