A long, ugly, and embarrasing legal case for the club and current Swindon Town owner Lee Power eventually seems to be coming to its end as the EFL revealed today that they have recieved an application from Australian business tycoon Clem Morfuni to proceed with his purchase of Swindon Town FC.

Following the latest court hearing, Clem Morfuni, operating through his company Axis Football Investments Limited, has the option to aquire the shareholding off of Power and take full control of the club.

Should approval be granted by the EFL, Mr Morfuni will be able to complete his takeover of the Robins ahead of the upcoming 21/22 League Two season.

Under the EFL's regulations, the governing body will determine whether the prospective buyer will be able to meet the obligations of running a club under the current EFL rules and regulations.

In a statement sent to Total Sport Swindon, the EFL said:

"As part of the ongoing court case, it has been determined that through Axis Football Investments Limited, Mr Clem Morfuni has the option to acquire the shareholding off current owner Lee Power and as a consequence, control of the Club. Mr Morfuni has now made an application to the EFL for prior approval in accordance with the EFL’s Regulations before determining whether to take up that option.

"The League continues to work with Mr Morfuni, considering his application, such that if Mr Morfuni does acquire ownership, he is in a position to meet his obligations required under current rules

"The EFL will continue to work with the Club and relevant stakeholders as they seek to ensure a successful and viable long-term future for the Club and all those associated with it, particularly its players, staff and supporters."
