Downton Abbey’s Victoria Emslie & Coronation Street’s Ian Reddington Come to Swindon.
The passionate wartime thriller, Lotty’s War, comes to The Wyvern Theatre this June for a UK tour before its anticipated West End run in 2017. Starring; Downton Abbey’s Victoria Emslie, Coronation Street’s Ian Reddington and War Horse’ Mat Ruttle.
Having starred in the Oscar winning films, The Theory of Everything and The Danish Girl, Victoria Emslie will be performing the titular role of Lotty in Lotty’s War. ‘When my agent sent me the script, I literally could not put it down’, says Victoria. ‘Giuliano has written every woman’s dream role – She is strong, feisty and independent’.
Lotty’s War is set during the occupation of the Channel Islands in WWII, the only piece of Britain captured by the Nazi’s. Based on recently discovered diaries, this forgotten chapter of British History is brought to life on stage in a ‘vivid and immersive theatrical experience!’
With the last boat to England gone, Lotty is housed in close quarters with the enemy. As loyalties waver amidst the temptations of forbidden love and the politics of war, does Lotty dare to tread a passionate and dangerous path to save a friend?
Starring alongside Victoria is Ian Reddington, most famous for playing both Tricky Dicky in EastEnders and Vernon in Coronation Street. ‘I was so nervous about taking on the role’, says Victoria, ‘but when Ian and I are on stage together, he is incredibly reassuring so I can do exactly as Lotty pleases’.
Written by Guernsey born Giuliano Crispini, Lotty’s War is celebrated as ‘one of the best wartime plays’.
