Where to Enjoy the Summer Sun in Swindon

So...the sun is out, the air is warm, but the beach is too far away...so where can you enjoy the glorious weather in Swindon? There are actually lots of places you can take the family for some fun in the sun. Whether you're after a peaceful park to sunbathe and relax in or an afternoon of full on activities, Swindon's got it all! Here is where we recommend...

1. Lydiard Park

Lydiard Park is the perfect setting to enjoy the summer sun. With plenty to do, including hiring out a barbecue, letting the kids run free for hours at the play park, enjoying an ice cream in the cafe, plenty of walks around the 250 acres at Lydiard or just simply relaxing on the extensive fields with a book, it's a great way to get you out and about, enjoying the great outdoors!

2. Coate Water

Coate Water fantastic all year round, but lots of Swindoners flock there when the sun makes an appearance, and we can see why. Grab yourself an ice cream from the cafe on the way in, enjoy a stroll around the stunning lake and play crazy golf with all the family. There is also a lovely park beside the lake and a miniature railway to keep the kids entertained. Is there simply anything better than that?! We don't think so!

3. Mouldon Hill Country Park

Mouldon Hill is popular with fisherman, but it's great for families too with pathed walkways in and out of the woods and around the lake. The dog can have a dip and there are plenty of open areas to enjoy a picnic or set up camp for the afternoon and enjoy a book or games.

4. Cotswold Water Park and Beach

Cotswold Water Park and Beach is the closest you'll get to a beach around Swindon. It's extremely popular on sunny days, bringing thousands of visitors from all around Wiltshire and Gloucestershire. Whether you just want to give the dog a walk (and swim!), or take the family for a fun day out, it can be done! Cotswold Water Park is suitable for those of all ages, and perfect for those  warm and sunny days.

5. Badbury Clump

Badbury Clump in Coleshill is a little way out of Swindon, but it's ideal for sunny days - simply down to the fact that it's so shady. So if it's a blisteringly hot day and you're tearing your hair out wondering where to cool down, Badbury Clump is the one. The majority of the walk is shaded by the stunning woodland, so you don't need to worry about burning!

So there we have it! These are our recommendations of locations that are perfect for the summer sun in and around Swindon. If you manage to visit any of these places on a hot summer's day, be sure to tweet us or tag us on Instagram!
