Swindon Wildcats make it four-point weekend with win at Guildford

A dominant second period was crucial as the Swindon Wildcats cruised to a 7-4 win at the Guildford Flames on Sunday.

The Wildcats trailed 2-1 going into the second period where the game completely swung.

Five unanswered goals from Swindon saw them go into the third and final period 6-2 up and cruising at the Spectrum. The final period ended 2-1 to Guildford, but Swindon never looked in danger of surrenduring their lead quite like the hosts did.

Guildford took the lead at 3:04 through Marek Maslonka and the Slovak doubled his and the Flames' tally at 5:30.

Ben Davies, on his last appearance for the Wildcats following the expiration of his four-week contract, scored at 8:56 to get Swindon back in the game.

Tomasz Malasinski dragged the scores level at 24:12 after being assisted by Davies and Head Coach Aaron Nell before Davies completed the turnaround at 32:09.

Seconds later it was 4-2 when Nell converted Max Birbrear's assist at 32:30.

The Flames were well and truly extinguished by Jonas Hoog at 36:24 and 37:54 when he made it 5-2 and 6-2 within a minute to send the travelling away support into raptures.

Guildford thought they had got back into the game through Jez Lundin and Danny Meyers goals at 43:52 and 57:01 respectively, but seconds after Meyer's made it a two-goal game, Swindon extended their lead through Malasinski and it ended a 4-7 scoreline.
