Swindon Wildcats delighted to announce the arrival of 26-year-old British forward Edgars Bebris

Swindon Wildcats are delighted to announce the arrival of 26-year-old British forward Edgars Bebris for the remainder of the season. Edgars joins the club having spent the start of the season with the Coventry Blaze in the EIHL. The Latvian-Born Brit will go straight into the Cats line-up for the game against Peterborough on Saturday.

The 6’ 4 forward began his career in Sheffield where he made a name for himself under then coach Andre Payette. After 4 years with the Steeldogs organisation, Edgars then moved to Peterborough where he spent two years under the guidance of Slava Koulikov, scoring 95 league points in two seasons.

After beginning last year in Manchester with the now defunct Phoenix, he moved back to Peterborough where he added a further 26 points in 20 games, and 6pts in 6 games during the playoffs. After sealing a try-out with Coventry, the Blaze offered him a contract but his ice-time was limited to just 17 games.

Edgars now moves to Swindon, and Player/Coach Aaron Nell was thrilled to be announcing an early Christmas Present to the Wildcats fans.

“The move has come around very quickly over the last few days but we’re delighted that Edgars has decided to join the Wildcats. He has been a target of mine for the last few summers and I am over the moon to finally get him in Swindon.

He’s a big strong player who’ll add a lot to our line-up. He’s very similar to Max and Jan in the sense that his two-way game is the most important but he can also contribute some very good points. In the EPL last year, he scored nearly 70 points and to bring someone in of that ability at this point of the season is huge.

We have a massive second half of the season coming up and we want to be challenging for multiple trophies, we were always looking for the right player to join the line-up after Sammy Zajac left, and with Edgars, I think we have the right guy. He can’t wait to start in Swindon and he should be in our line-up this weekend against Peterborough ready for our big Christmas period.”
