Swindon Wildcats Delighted to Announce the Signing of Sam Godfrey for the Remainder of the Season

Swindon Wildcats are delighted to be announcing the signing of Sam Godfrey for the remainder of the season.

Sam joins the Wildcats after his release from the Guildford Flames in the EIHL where he spent the last 3 seasons. Sam will be familiar to all in Swindon after he iced for us during the 2013-2014 EPL season. He’s also had spells with MK Lightning and the Slough Jets since returning to Britain from America.

After confirming his arrival Sam was undoubtedly thrilled to be back in Swindon for the rest of the season.

“I’m really excited to be back in Swindon, it’s been a while since I last played for the Wildcats and I’m thrilled to be back in Swindon. I think I’ll be able to bring more energy to the line-up and I’ve gained more experience in Guildford since my last spell in Swindon”.

I’ve had some experience in the EIHL now and iced with some more experienced players. I’ve iced with some of the team before; Jan, Bully, Floyd, Lidds and a few others and I can’t wait to get going this weekend against a tough Peterborough team. The Wildcats have got a good team and I’m excited to be part of that again. I hope by the end of the season we can hoist some silverware!” Sam added.

Speaking about his new recruit Head Coach Aaron Nell is equally happy to have Sam in his side, who’ll wear the #61 jersey for Swindon.

“We’re thrilled to have Sam back in Swindon” Said Nell.

“He’s a local lad who played here three years ago and he’s gone away and improved his game by playing with Guildford. From playing against him I can tell how much he has improved and how much he’ll help us for the rest of the season. It’s great for Sam to be back in Swindon and I can’t wait for him to be back in our line-up this weekend.

He’s going to be a big addition to the team and is really going to help us defensively. He’s a hard playing defensive defenceman and he’ll be tough to play against which is what we need. We have to make it tough for other teams forwards and bringing Sam in will help do that.

It makes my job harder but that’s only a good thing. It’s a great selection problem to have and although it’ll be a headache at times, whoever plays well will be on the ice. We’ve got experienced guys and running with 7 D men will provide competition for places which is a good thing.
