Doyle Succeeds Batchelor As Robins Captain
Swindon Robins speedway have appointed returning Jason Doyle as their club captain ahead of the 2016 campaign.
The popular Australian, one of the Robins’ Elite League title heroes in 2012, will be back at the Abbey next season after a four year absence.
Following the departure of previous skipper Troy Batchelor to King’s Lynn, Doyle has duly been unveiled as the rider tasked with leading Alun Rossiter’s side in their quest for title glory.
The 30-year-old arrives back in Wiltshire following a spectacular 2015 during which he enjoyed a stunning breakthrough on the Grand Prix stage.
Team manager Rossiter believes the World No.5 is the perfect man to lead by example as he takes on the captaincy.
“We are obviously delighted to have Doyley back with us next season, and we are pleased to make him captain as well.
“I thought last year he matured so much, and in the Grand Prix’s he showed just how far he’s come as a rider.
“Obviously he’s one of the most experienced members of the team, and he’ll no doubt help the younger riders we’ve got.
“The other riders should feed off him, and that’s the beauty of this team, I think everyone will feed off each other and we’ll have a great team spirit.
“That in itself can be worth a few points a meeting, so it’s really important and we hope that turns out to be the case when we get everyone together and get the season started.”
