Swindon Town showed "great mental strength" to win FA Youth Cup tie, according to Sol Pryce
Swindon under-18 captain and Saturday's two-goal hero Sol Pryce was proud of the character shown by Town in their 6-2 win over Newport County in the first round of the FA Youth Cup.
Pryce opened the scoring early, when he bundled in after just 11 minutes, but just seven minutes later, Swindon were down a man after Jacob Bancroft was shown a straight red card which meant Town had to play 72 minutes with 10 men.
Despite that, Swindon doubled the lead through Ollie Rejek to make it 2-0. Newport came back in the second half with two quick-fire goals, and it briefly looked liked Swindon would crumble, but, in the final 12 minutes, they blitzed the Newport defence with four goals to register a resounding 6-2 win.
Captain Pryce picked out the club's character as the most pleasing thing about the victory.
"I'm delighted with the boys with the character they've shown today and how we came back from being 2-0 up to 2-2 to coming away with a 6-2 victory," he began.
"Going [a man down] after [18] minutes is hard for the team but we showed great mental strength today to get back into the game.
"We kept our heads focused. I don't think it was a red card in the first place but we got on with that.
"Some people might crumble with that but we put our heads back on and came back to win."
Swindon have been drawn to play Northampton Town in round two, that game will be played at the County Ground on Saturday, November 18.
