Swindon Town manager David Flitcroft confirms Kaiyne Woolery sub was "absolutely tactical"
An early replacing of striker Kaiyne Woolery was not well received by Swindon Town supporters on Saturday, and manager David Flitcroft insisted it was down to tactics, not injury to the forward.
Woolery was replaced by fellow striker Luke Norris after just 42 minutes on Saturday, with Swindon 2-1 down at home to 20th-placed Crewe at the County Ground.
It led to booes from the home support and chants of 'You don't know what you're doing' aimed at the manager, David Flitcroft, before Woolery was applauded off for his efforts.
Woolery did not take the replacing well, as he headed straight down the tunnel once his number was up, which suggested he may have been injured, but Flitcroft officially disputed the potential of that at full-time.
When asked at full-time whether Woolery was injured, the boss replied:
"Absolutely tactical. He wasn't doing what I was asking him to do, I wanted to introduce Noz [Luke Norris].
"I knew I was bringing on Noz at half-time, probably should have done it five minutes earlier and then you get Luke Norris up to speed, up to game speed and that was the decision.
"Then at half-time, it allowed me to go into detail into how I was going to use Luke and use Marc Richards and get that tactical work as opposed to just five or six minutes from him at half-time. That was the reason behind that."
