Review: Barbury Shooting School
Situated on the Marlborough Downs just minutes from junction 15 of the M4, Barbury Shooting Range offers a variety of events for all the family. While on work placement with Total Guide, student Dylan Metcalfe went along to test out the fun.
"I headed along to Barbury Shooting School for fun and see if a customer would enjoy clay pigeon shooting. First of all the instructors are really nice and helpful as they help you every time you miss the clay and tell you where you’ve gone wrong.
The guns you use in the clay pigeon shooting aren’t your standard airsoft rifles or BB guns, they are real Beretta shotguns and they are used to knock down the clay which is really cool.
Also if you’re going to Barberry as a boss leading a customer meeting party, you will get refreshments and food (Bacon roll or Egg and Bacon roll) and you will be greeted by one of the nice staff who will be taking you and your customers to the one of the ranges and then you will learn gun etiquette.
You then aims the shotgun at the range and another person gets to control when to fire one of the clay disks. Your objective is to destroy the clay using your shotgun (A little tip: aim you shotgun under the clay) and don’t worry If you miss, the instructor will tell you where you went wrong and how to improve.
If you decide to do the hour and a half option, you will do a final challenge where you and five other people will do a shooting game, where you and the others work as a team to shoot at the targets. When I did this I managed to hit about five to ten targets in a row which I was quite pleased with.
They also have a good membership scheme where you can get discount on everything in terms of clothing, equipment and sessions to do with the gun range.
Membership is also good value for money as you can get free sessions on a business day out, instead of getting a few drinks at the pub/restraunt which would cost much more, most probably.
Food is provided as well while your shooting, and you get the benefit of fresh air whilst shooting at clay targets. If you want you can get an egg and bacon roll for cheaper price than food at a pub/restraunt and you can do this many times in you annual membership, which lasts for one year and entitles you to as many sessions as you want within that time period.
Overall Thoughts
I think that Barberry Shooting School is brilliant and I recommend to everyone as it is relaxing and competitive and I believe that it’s for everyone.
