Holloway set for 'important summer' as Swindon Town confirm retained list

Boss Ian Holloway described as an “important summer” ahead for Swindon Town after they confirmed their retained list following the 2024/25 season.

Town found themselves in relegation trouble at the start of the campaign as they sacked head coach Mark Kennedy at the end of October.

They brought in experienced manager Holloway to steady the ship, resulting in a 12th-placed finish.

Now, the club has confirmed eight players are set to be released following the expiration of their contracts.

They include Pharrell Johnson, Sean McGurk, Jake Cain, Tariq Uwakwe, Grant Hall, Anton Dworzak, George Cox and Saidou Khan.

Joel Cotterill, Tom Nichols, Miguel Freckleton, Kabongo Tshimanga and Joe Westley have all returned to their parent clubs following their respective loan deals.

And with his squad set to be reshaped, Holloway insisted the club were moving into an “exciting chapter” next season.

He told the club website: “Firstly, I want to thank each and every player that played for the club and my team this season.

“For any manager, I’m sure they would agree that this time of the season is extremely difficult, but can only thank every player for their efforts and wish those departing the very best of luck in their next chapter.

“I’d like to place on record my appreciation to Swansea, Mansfield, Sheffield United, Peterborough United, and Burnley for the loans of Joel, Tom, Miguel, Kabongo, and Joe, each player has played a big role in this season. I wish them nothing but success and good luck in their journey.

“I believe we are moving into a really exciting chapter next season with a core of experienced players already contracted for next season, and it will be an important summer for everybody associated with the club.”

Jack Bycroft, Nnamdi Ofoborh, Paul Glatzel, Connor Ripley and Aaron Drinan have all been offered new deals with the club with negotiations ongoing.
