ON-THE-BUZZER MATCH REPORT: Swindon Wildcats 5-2 Basingstoke Bison

The Swindon Wildcats registered their second win of the season, as they overcame the Basingtoke Bison 5-2.

The first period passed without a goal but it was the hosts that broke the deadlock at 25:25 when Neil Liddiard whacked in from distance following assists from Jan Kostal and Aaron Nell.

Swindon thought they had the lead earlier than that though, but Nell had an effort chalked off shortly before Liddiard made it 1-0.

Basingstoke levelled the contest when Vanya Antonov made it 1-1 and, at 35:35, Dan Scott completed the second period turnaround for the Bisons.

The Wildcats' Player/Head Coach Nell showed how it should be done when he netted at 37:17 to level the scores for a third time.

Nell got his second of the evening with an unassisted strike at 40:48 that put Swindon back into the lead, and they did not look back after that.

Luc Johnson got the Wildcats a two-goal cushion when he fired in-between the legs of the Basingstoke netminder, which made it 4-2 at 43:12.

The best goal of the night, and potentially the season, was scored by Max Birbraer, as the Wildcats started to run away with the contest.

Birbraer got the puck at around the half-way line and slalomed his way past a number of Basingstoke defenders before slotting into the bottom corner.
