Vic Morgan: Swindon Town, You're In Or You're Out

Lifelong Swindon Town fan Vic Morgan gives his authoritative say on the goings on at the club, every week on Total Sport. This week Morgan addressed the situation of season ticket renewal, as the price of football tickets across the country is at the height of debate.

It's that time of the year when opinions are divided and factions appear. Just as the European referendum was announced, ticket prices at Swindon Town FC hit the headlines this weekend. Just like the big vote in June, you have a choice. You're either in or out.

To be honest with you there's no doubt in my mind what I'll do. I'll renew my long standing, or to be more accurate, sitting season ticket. It seems the obvious thing for me that if you support a team and you go to games as much as possible, then you take the option that gives you decent value for money.

At a time when Premier League prices go through the roof an average of fifteen quid, to watch the side I've supported for nigh on half a century, seems reasonable. I've read the arguments that the club appears to lack ambition and that frozen prices means a lack of investment. The answer to that is simple. What would be said if the cost of watching the Town for a season was doubled?

Well we know the answer to that don't we? Right now we have the opportunity to back Swindon Town with money upfront. Okay there's no guarantee that next season will bring a promotion push. When is there?

Throwing money at a team doesn't mean you'll get what you want. While I would like to see a Town team with more permanent members in the squad, I'm not a fan of the loan system, I do absolutely agree with the club being run in a sensible financial way.

So you have a choice. Nobody forces you or me to buy a season, or any other, ticket. It's entirely up to you. The one thing that you may miss out in though, is the whole reason we support a football team.

Every so often a season comes along which brings a smile to your face. We've been close in recent times and just remember how you felt that May evening when that incredible play off game with Sheffield United took place. Okay, the downside came a few days later at that place beginning with W, but the sheer togetherness in that sizzling, bonkers match against the Blades is what it's all about.

Before you run away with the idea that I'm one of the so called "Happy Clappers", I'm not. I can be as critical as the next fan. I've expressed my opinions over the years on the rights and very wrong goings on at the County Ground. One thing has always been central though. Supporting the team that plays in red and white.

As I've said, it's entirely up to you. The more season tickets we sell, the more funds are available. Not for multi million pound signings, but for keeping the club on a sound financial footing. We've seen this season that mega bucks doesn't mean success. Leicester City have proved that it's teamwork that matters not just money.

I believe that we've seen some great football at Swindon over the past few seasons. Okay it's not been totally rosy this time round but relegation doesn't seem to be a problem and a top ten finish is a possibility.
Like the big vote in June, you're either in or out. Up to you.
