Supermarine U16s Wiltshire Cup Divison Match Report & Gallery

Supermarine U16s 22-19 Bradford on Avon U16s. Supermarine U16s faced Bradford on Avon in the last of their Wiltshire Cup matches having gone unbeaten. One more win would secure the title.

The game started briskly for Marine as right from the kick of the visitors were driven back towards their own line by hard defence from the home team. A scrum inside the Bradford 22 was won by Supermarine and the ball was spun out wide where Jake Dobie scored his first try of the season, cutting in from his wing.

This spelt the end of Marine’s dominance in the first half as the visitors worked tirelessly to put two converted tries away before half time, turning around 14-5 up.

Supermarine regrouped at half time and a 10 minute spell of consistent pressure in Bradford on Avon’s 22 paid dividends when the ball was quickly spun out to the left wing where Grant Sanders scored his debut try for Supermarine, having only joined during the closed season with no experience of playing before.

Almost from the restart more pressure from Marine had Bradford on Avon backpedalling and a loose kick from their own 22 was fielded by Sanders again, who ran in for his second score of the match.

It was all Marine now and again the pressure was applied to put a dominant Supermarine pack in close combat near the Bradford line. Several close range charges from the pack saw Connor Drewitt score his first of the season and Captain Harry Western converted to take Marine more than a converted try away from the visitors.

With seconds left on the clock Bradford on Avon mounted there own comeback and scored an excellent try after some flowing back play as the clock hit full time. They failed to convert and Supermarine were winners, 22-19.

This handed the Wilts Cup trophy to Supermarine and the boys celebrated in style while their proud parents cheered from the sidelines.
