MATCH PREVIEW: Swindon v Plymouth Argyle

Swindon Town will be out to keep up their winning streak and also breathe life into their EFL Trophy campaign as Plymouth Argyle travel to the County Ground. Total Sport’s Joe Acklam previews Tuesday’s cup clash.

After a slow start to the season, Swindon won two games in a week to transform the atmosphere around SN1 and they will be hoping to keep up the good vibes as they turn their attention to the EFL Trophy.

Scott Lindsey confirmed in his press conference yesterday that he intends to go out and get the win against higher league opposition in Plymouth.

He said: “I believe that we have good strength in depth here, when I look at the starting team for tomorrow night I still think it is a really strong team, so we will be looking to win the game.

“You will never see me set up a team to try and take a draw or park the bus, we will always press really high up the pitch, keep possession, create goalscoring opportunities, and try and win every game and this game is no different.

“I think it is important that we look after the players who need the rest and make sure that the players who need to play get some game time.

“The youth players will be used somewhere along the line but the starting 11 will be all professionals.

“We have a big squad here and have games coming thick and fast, so I think it is great to be able to let some of the players who haven’t played many minutes get on the pitch.”

In injury news it was confirmed that Rushian Hepburn-Murphy will see his first action in a Swindon shirt, and it could also be a first appearance for new signing Morgan Roberts from Banbury United.

Lindsey said: “The plan is for [Hepburn-Murphy] to get half an hour tomorrow and so we are hopeful that when he gets on we see a real impact with the way he plays.

“He has been really good in training, he is very quick and aggressive when he is running with the ball and stretches the opposition really well, which we should see tomorrow.

“He is going to add something different to what we already have and it is very exciting for him to be back fit and get some minutes under his belt.

“[Roberts] has got a real sharpness about him and he liked to drift in from the right-hand side onto his left foot and get shots off.

“He turns really well under pressure and I am really looking forward to watching him play.”

Swindon currently sit bottom of Southern Group E having lost to Crystal Palace U21s 2-0 in their opener, whilst the spoils were shared between Plymouth and Bristol Rovers, with the Pilgrims taking the bonus point with a penalty shoot-out win.
