MATCH PREVIEW: Barrow AFC vs Swindon

Swindon Town will be looking to put their tough run of one goal in five games across all competitions to bed when they go away to face Barrow AFC this weekend. Total Sport’s Joe Acklam previews the League Two clash.

Swindon have been having troubles in front of goal since they put five past Mansfield Town in late October, scoring just one goal since and failing to pick up three points in that period.

Scott Lindsey believes that the goals will come if Town can fix a few things about their application in the final third.

He said: “It is not concerning in many aspects, and the reason is why is because we are knocking the door down as much as we can.

“We are the highest team for shots on goal, we have the most touches in the opposition penalty box, so in terms of getting in the final third we are up there with the best in the league.

“But getting it across that line and into the net has been a challenge for us. We are working very hard on it, we are mindful of it, and we spoke about it.

“We want to make sure that we are more aggressive, we are calmer in front of goal, and to be less anxious when we get into that final third.

“We have the most shots in the league, so what do you want us to do? Should we shoot more? It is not for the want of trying.

“We are third most for shots when there is only the goalkeeper to beat, so we are working the ball into good positions. We just need that conversion.”

Swindon will have to better their fortunes against the side who have conceded the fourth fewest shots in the league, although they have conceded as many goals as bottom placed Gillingham.

Lindsey said: “They are not route one by any stretch, they have attacking threats, but they do play football and try and work the ball through the thirds.

“They are a good side and they are up there for a reason. Pete Wild is a really good manager and has done really well there.

“It is his first season up there with Barrow and he has had a really good start to the campaign.

“We are really looking forward to the game, we have had a great week of training.”

Town visit Holker Street with the home side having won their last four at home, but they were on the wrong end of a shellacking last time out, 5-0 against Stevenage.

Last season was the first time these two sides have met since the 1960s, with Louis Reed’s late winner against Phil Brown’s Bluebirds almost guaranteeing Town their play-off spot with one game to play last April.

Overall Swindon have won three of the six meetings between the two clubs, including a 3-0 win for Town exactly one month before they would win the League Cup.
