‘Elite’ Personal Trainer, Pierre Spamer spills the beans on how to stay fit and healthy, his fitness secrets and why BattleGround is one of the best facilities to work-out in Swindon.

Tell us a little bit about BattleGround Fitness?

BattleGround Fitness UK is very unique in its own way. As well as having a big commercial arm to the gym, we also have 6 Training Zones, including a Functional Studio, Weight Training Area, Cardiovascular Training Area, BattleFit Studio, Stretching Zone and Outdoor Modified Strongman/ Strongwoman Training Area. 

How do you stay fit and healthy?

I have a very strong military background, so taking on new challenges has always been part of what I do. I love taking part in Mud Runs, Super Human Events and MMA training. One of the most challenging events that I ever competed in was a race to the top of one of the UK's largest mountains with 45 pounds on my back. 

How did you turn your passion for fitness into a career?

I believe every man, woman and child is an athlete regardless of who they are, where they come from, and their natural ability. In the right environment and with the correct encouragement, everyone can thrive.

Do you have a motto or favourite motivational quote?

Train Insane.

What are your tips for people looking to get into shape?

Firstly and most importantly you must get a sense of enjoyment from your training. Secondly don't over commit yourself to any training schedule. One training session per week is far better than no training session at all.

What are some mistakes people make when working out?

Most people fail in training because of 2 critical points. 1 - They train at a sub maximal effort. 2 - Their nutrition is completely wrong. Training shouldn't be used as an excuse to eat the wrong food.

Are there any exercises you advise against?

No one exercise is right or wrong, however if you've been training for more than 8 weeks without seeing a difference in either your body composition, weight, body fat percentage, performance or training intensity, you're doing the wrong exercises for your body type.

What music do you listen to when you work out?

Metallica, Guns & Roses, ACDC, Seether are my favorite bands to work out to. And when no ones in the gym, Five Finger Death Punch. 

What foods are always in your fridge?

Total 0% Greek Yogurt, full fat milk and lots of raw oats.

What's been the most rewarding part of your job?

Creating an environment where both male and female members can express themselves in any way, shape or form without feeling intimidated.
