How many times have you run the Swindon Half Marathon?
This will be my third time.
What’s your Swindon Half PB and what time are you going for this year?
My PB is 1 hour 50, but I really, really want to do 1 hour 44 this year. Liz and I have a wee bet going with Gavin Jones, and it’s always nice to have a little competition going.
Which Olympic athlete has inspired you the most?
After the Olympic there are so many to choose from! But, I would have to say Jessica Ennis. I love how humble she is, always has a smile on her face and is a real inspiration. I have a slight girl crush on her!
Are there any other sporting hobbies you enjoy in your spare time?
I have just got the bug for triathlons (thanks to Liz Ledger); I am just about to take part in the Highworth Tri on the 16 September – although I have heard it’s rather hilly, these are not my friend. I also take part in pole fitness and aerial hoop classes. It truly is great exercise, fun and brilliant for your core!
Are you running for a charity? If so which one and why?
I am running as part of the Total Swindon team, where I hope to raise money for Tami’s Wish.
What advice would you give to other people training for a half marathon?
Stick with it and embrace it. The feeling after a run is a feeling I can’t describe, but it feels great.
How many days a week do you train?
5-6 days, depending on work. I really try and vary my routine from week to week. With the Marathon just around the corner though I really need to get some more miles in.
Do you run with any local running/fitness clubs?
I have started to train on a Monday night with the Highworth Running Club at the athletic club behind the County Ground. They do sprint sessions; they’re such a friendly group and really push you hard. I also try and run with Shin Splints on a Wednesday. What I love about Shin Splints is there is such a variation of people and abilities that go. They really help you become a comfortable runner.
Where’s your favourite place to run in and around Swindon?
Since running with Shin Splints I have discovered a whole new world of routes. By the Canal, through Broom Manor, along the old Railway Track. There are so many hidden gems in Swindon. What’s great is it has so much variation. It’s very undulating.
How will you celebrate completing the Swindon Half Marathon?
With my good old friend Lizzy Ledger. She was my inspiration to do it in the first place, so probably a Sunday roast in a country pub somewhere with our friends and family.
