Review: Sass Hair and Beauty

Our very own Liz Ledger was invited down to Sass Hair and Beauty (formally John Samuel) for some hair pampering before her holiday. Here is how she got on..

Having blonde hair can be a hassle, especially when you want to go lighter or darker. I know going on holiday to a hot country can often damage your hair or change its colour. Before my holiday I decided I wanted to go a little darker to save myself the hassle of brassy tones and dryness – running a business full time means when you are on holiday you really want to be on holiday and not worry about anything else!

I was kindly invited down to Sass Hair and Beauty to have a cut and colour – and of course I said yes! Sass, the salon owner, is extremely knowledgeable and funnily enough has a similar hair type to me. I have curly hair that is prone to frizz in humidity – it was great to speak to someone who actually understood the dilemma this can cause.

The salon is really well presented. It has great lighting and the décor is modern and stylish – but not clinical. I don’t know about you, but when I get my hair done it always feels like a treat. Sass and the team were really friendly and made me feel at ease straight away.

Sass gave me a full consultation before she started on my hair. I wanted to go a little darker but was worried about brassy tones. The salon uses L’Oreal hair colour, which is renowned for its quality, and Sass explained that we would need to do a couple of different colours to eliminate any brassy tones.

I was really impressed that Sass asked if I wore my hair up, I do a lot of sport and often have it tied up. Sass made sure that the highlights were around my hair line so it would blend well when it was both up and down. I had a darker blonde applied to my roots, a slightly different shade to the lengths and some highlights to keep it fresh and vibrant.

The whole experience was really great – especially the massage chair when I had my hair washed! Sass spoke to me about all the products I should and shouldn’t use as she trimmed my ends and blow dried my hair into voluminous curly perfection.

I was over the moon with my hair, the colour was perfect and there wasn’t a brassy tone in sight! The whole experience was great - from the consultation, my cup of coffee, to my cut and colour, and Sass’s vast experience.  I would highly recommend it!
