Armed Forces Day to Be Given a New Lease of Life

On June 28th Armed Forces Day will once again be commemorated in Swindon Town Centre.

Following 3 years of declining presence at the event, former soldier Mike Buss has been drafted in to give the ceremony a much needed boost. 

This special family event hopes to raise awareness and appreciation for those on active duty, as well as those who have served their country, veterans, reservists and all military associations in the Borough of Swindon.

Alongside a handful of fellow war veterans, Mike is hoping to breathe new life into the flailing event. 

Planned activities include a Sweetheart Beauty Pageant at Bushwackers, Family Fun Day in Faringdon Park and a Black Tie Charity Dinner and Auction at the Blunsdon House Hotel. 

Commenting on his involvement Mike said "I have the passion to bring this event back in a big way, it's incredibly important to have a day that shows just how much we appreciate the dangerous and heroic work that our troops do.

2014 marks two significant anniversaries for the Armed Forces, including the 100th Anniversary of the First World War and the 70th Anniversary of D-Day - this alone should make more people want to show their support."

As part of this year's celebrations a family fun day will be held at Farringdon Park, complete with displays of Military Vehicles past and present, demonstrations from the Army, RAF and Royal navy, plus military band music, bouncy castles, and bric and brac stalls. 
 
There will also be a chance to take on various army challenges including a mini assault course and a firing range provided by Swindon Airsoft.
 
Mike Buss and his team are being supported by inSwindon along with the local Royal Logistics Corps (TA) Unit under the lead of Captain Andy Lambert.
