Prime offers young actors chance to perform with National Theatre

Swindon’s Prime Theatre is celebrating being selected to be part of the National Theatre’s 2021 Connections Festival.

NT Connections invites companies from across the UK to premiere a new collection of plays written especially for young actors by major playwrights. Prime Theatre is now offering young actors aged 13+ the chance to audition to be part of their production.

Laura Jasper, Associate Director, explained, “We’re so excited to be part of this national project and our chance to showcase regional talent. The chosen cast will perform in Swindon, at another regional theatre and maybe the National Theatre itself!”

Though the company is normally based at the Wyvern Theatre, due to Covid-19 restrictions, auditions will be held at Drove Primary School in Swindon. Auditions are offered to any young actor aged 13 to 25 years and are open beyond the current membership of Prime’s youth theatre so that anyone can take part. There are two opportunities to audition, Monday 2 and Wednesday 4 November, both from 6:30 to 8pm.

Jacob Tyrell, 18, one of Prime’s Trustees added, “As Swindon’s only professional theatre company for children it’s really important every young actor has a chance to be part of this show. I’d encourage everyone to give this amazing opportunity a shot!”
