Wildcats Retain Nethersell For 2018-19

Swindon Wildcats are delighted to announce that Ben Nethersell will be returning to the club for the forthcoming 2018-2019 NIHLS1 campaign.

The 20-year-old defencemen, who will also be sponsored again by Fran Whittock & Shane Dunne, will be icing in his third consecutive season as a Wildcat. Last year he contributed 2 goals and 12 assists in 62 games for the club.

The puck moving youngster began his career in Streatham before moving to Swindon where he joined the Okanagan Hockey Academy, where he became known for his offensive ability from the blue-line. During his last season for OHA he contributed 17 goals and 34 assists in just 20 league games.

Having featured prominently for GB U18’s in the past as well, Aaron Nell was delighted to have secured Ben’s services for another season.

“I’m pleased to have secured the services of Ben for another season. He stepped up massively last year and he plays the game well above his years. At just 20 years old his best days are still to come and he is a big part of the defensive core in Swindon.

He showed the patience when he needed it and he took his chance when it came to him. He really impressed me last year with his performances and I really wanted to keep him in Swindon for another season. It’s also a big boost to us to have someone with his offensive brain at the back. He adds something different to our already strong D core and I can’t wait to start working with him again in September”.

Speaking after agreeing a deal himself, Ben added:

“It is so good to be back in Swindon for another year. I didn’t want to be playing anywhere else and after the success of last year I don’t think there is a better place to be playing.

With OHA we had a very close and successful team and last year was the first time since I graduated OHA that we had the same team unity. We all came together around Christmas and for the second half of the season we had such a good run and we were all loving our hockey.

There is always room for improvement, I want to be more reliable for Aaron but I was happy with how I performed last year. It’s great to be winning trophies and we want to be winning everything we possibly can. The league must be the main priority but we want that winning feeling we had last year.

I’m hoping to be back on the ice soon and before we know it we’ll be back for our first practice of the year. I can’t wait to get going again!!”

Whilst sponsorship for Ben has been snapped up by Fran & Shane, there are plenty of other sponsorship opportunities to be had. If you are interested, please email Sally Price, our commercial manager, on [email protected] or phone 01793 781549.
