Ladies Captain is recognised for voluntary contributions with England Team

Supermarine Ladies Captain and Team Manager, Claire Legg has been recognised for her voluntary contributions to rugby.

Claire was one of nine volunteers from the South who were chosen to spend a day at Pennyhill Park which included an exclusive opportunity to observe an England Senior Squad trading session on Tuesday 5th March 2013.

Claire has been playing rugby for 11 years and has always been involved in committee roles helping local ladies rugby sections and clubs. Previous clubs include Ivel Barbarians, Avon, Henley and since 2005 Claire has become a dedicated member of Supermarine Rugby Club and Treasurer of Supermarine Sports and Social Club.

To add to Claire’s impressive list of titles she is also the Women's and Girls Representative attending RFU meetings and contributing ideas how to improve ladies and girls rugby.

At the start of the day at Pennyhill Simon Winman from the RFU Head of Club Development greeted the volunteers who all shared their stories and experiences. Claire recalls, ‘We got a glimpse of a few players popping in to chat to the coaches and fellow team mates.’ Followed by a 4 course lunch with Stuart Lancaster and afterwards walking down on to the training pitch to watch the England Squads training session, ‘We were so lucky with the weather, blue sky and sunshine!’

Claire describes the England coaching staff as ‘extremely welcoming and friendly. I was amazed how open and chatty they all were. I was particularly impressed with the interaction we had with Stuart Lancaster.’

‘We were so privileged to meet the staff and the have photos taken with the players after their training session. A few names spring to mind that we had photos with: Croft, Robshaw, Care… I thoroughly enjoyed the day and it was great to meet other volunteers and find out what they do in their clubs and share stories and ideas. This is an experience I will always treasure - especially if the England Rugby Squad goes on in winning style to take the six nations title and the grand slam!’
