Through the ages: Swindon Town v Stevenage

SWINDON TOWN host League Two strugglers Stevenage at the County Ground on Tuesday night as Richie Wellens' side look to put an end to their five-game winless run. Total Sport Swindon's Rajan Hothi looks back at some of Town's previous meetings with Boro.

Swindon have faced off against Stevenage on 12 occasions, winning eight of these meetings and losing four. We take a look at three of these previous clashes between the two sides.

1.) Stevenage 0-4 Swindon Town - League One, October 27th 2012

The 2012-13 season was a rollercoaster of a campaign for Swindon, but it was going very well for Town under Paolo Di Canio until his departure in February.

One of the brilliant away days under the Italian was to Stevenage as Swindon ran riot at the Lamex to hand Boro their heaviest defeat in the Football League.

Raffaele De Vita put Swindon ahead after 17 minutes as he slammed home from Matt Ritchie's knock-down.

Ritchie then turned provider to goalscorer as his long-range strike somehow got the better of Steve Arnold to put Swindon 2-0 up just after the half-hour mark.

Tommy Miller spurned an opportunity to score Swindon's third as Arnold was on hand to save his penalty, but it meant very little, as Miles Storey headed home just minutes later to put Town 3-0 up going into the half-time interval.

Adam Rooney added a fourth in the second-half to give Swindon a comfortable win heading into their League Cup clash with Aston Villa.

2.) Swindon Town 1-2 Stevenage - FA Cup third-round, January 3rd 1998

First division Swindon suffered an embarrassing FA Cup exit at the hands of Non-League Stevenage on a very windy day at the County Ground.

The conditions made it hard for any real football to be played, but it was going to plan for Town as Mark Walters put the hosts ahead after six minutes to ease any nerves in the home crowd.

However, Stevenage pulled level midway through the first-half. Jason Soloman's strike from the edge of the 18-yard box restored parity and put Swindon at risk of a humiliating exit.

Stevenage secured their passage through to the fourth-round courtesy of Giuliano Grazioli. Fraser Digby's goal-kick just made it out of the penalty area, and Grazioli poked home to send the travelling Stevenage fans into delirium and hand Town one of their most embarrassing defeats.

3.) Swindon Town 3-2 Stevenage - League Two, November 27th 2018

Richie Wellens grabbed his first home win in charge of Swindon in a night that was seized by two of Town's academy graduates.

Sol Pryce was a surprise inclusion into the starting XI and he made a dream start to his debut as he slotted home from Steven Alzate's cross after just 18 seconds.

Scott Twine doubled Town's lead six minutes later, as he was the quickest to react to Matt Taylor's saved free-kick.

Former Swindon-man Scott Cuthbert pulled one back for the visitors, but Pryce raced through on goal and bagged his brace on the stroke of half-time.

Alex Reid scored from a deflected Joel Byrom free-kick to give Stevenage hope, but Swindon held on for the 3-2 win in what was a memorable night for Sol Pryce.
