Swindon Town trio Johnny Goddard, Kyle Knoyle and Matt Preston will get behind-closed-doors friendly to improve fitness

The Swindon players that are currently lacking match fitness will get a chance to get up to speed this week when Town play a behind-closed-doors friendly.

Kyle Knoyle, who is yet to make his debut due to an early-season knee injury, Johnny Goddard (foot injury) and new signing Matt Preston who barely got a pre-season will benefit most from the friendly while it's also an oppurtunity for minutes for the likes of Ellis Iandolo.

Following Tuesday night's defeat at home to Coventry, David Flitcroft was asked on the fitness of new boy Matt Preston who he signed on a free on Monday to cover for Dion Conroy's long-term injury.

"He's in good nick, he's been to a couple of clubs, League One clubs he's had talks with and went to train with them, he couldn't agree something with them, we've ended up jumping on it and got him down here so I'm delighted with that signing.

"We've got a behind-closed-doors game next week so it'll be good to get Matt in there and Johnny G a game and Donal McDermott, Ellis Iandolo - give the boys a game, so we'll have that next week."

Flitcroft said afterwards that game is against Bristol City and it will be played on Tuesday.

Knoyle and Goddard are on the road to recovery from injury. Knoyle has been an unused sub twice since he was cleared to be able to play while Goddard has yet to make the 18-man squad post-injury. Speaking on them specifically, Flitcroft said: "It's just about getting them games, the one next week is going to be a good test.

"They've done quite a lot of field work, they're in full-time training with us now and getting them behind-closed-doors but it's quite difficult now because you've got the Checkatrade (Trophy), it's quite difficult to get those behind-closed-doors games until the reserve fixtures start up again."
