Swindon Town news and updates

During this unprecedented time in history, football clubs across England are attempting to maintain business whilst battling a war against COVID-19. Through the madness let's take a look at some of the latest Swindon Town football club news updates.

The summer transfer window looms and contract extensions are due

One of the few remaining actives league is in Belarus, but the action continues in the board room for English League 2 side Swindon Town.

Whilst the planet is attempting to cope with the deadly coronavirus pandemic, Swindon Town suits shouldn’t neglect the fact that some of their top talents have their contracts coming to an end.

Eoin DoyleSwindon Town star player Eoin Doyle has had the season of his career thus far into the 19/20 League 2 campaign. With his team sat in 2nd place and joint 1st on points, he’s played a huge part in their success with 25 goals to his name. 15 of the 25 goals he’s scored have also been claimed as ‘clear-cut chances’, which is also the highest in the league.

The talented striker joined Swindon on a permanent deal from Bradford back in January, which is a deal until the season ends. He spent the first half of this term on loan with the Robins and fired 23 goals in 22 games which put Swindon right into promotion contention.

Swindon’s star striker Doyle aka the ginger Pele, holding his player of the month award.

Kaiyne Woolery - Woolery has Championship level and has been battling with Swindon for the past three seasons, with his contract soon to expire it may depend on the division Swindon find themselves in next season.

The 25-year-old striker has the potential to perform at a higher level and I do not doubt that he might ignore a contract extension if Swindon blows their chances at promotion.

Jordan Lynden – Since joining Swindon Lynden has been ruled out with injuries, his future at the club seems to an unknown right now, which usually doesn’t spell a good sign.

The Australian midfielder joined Swindon on a one year deal which has gone to waste due to his injuries. It’s good to note he has previously been on the Aston Villa squad.

Keshi Anderson – Since he arrived from Crystal Palace back in 2017, Keshi has played over 100 games for Swindon and has always been a great addition to Strikeforce of Richie Wellens squad.

His contract is due to expire in the summer and I’d expect Swindon to negotiate with the pacey forward because they can’t afford to lose valuable and reliable players who’re always available to call upon when needed.

Anthony Grant – One of the oldest players of the bunch, but with key experience is Anthony Grant. A loan spell with Swindon impressed them enough to make a short-term deal for the player.

I’d expect Swindon to hold onto Grant given his vast experience for Southend United, Crewe Alexandra and Port Vale.

Swindon Player tested for Coronavirus

In other news, director of football Paul Jewell has revealed some promising news for Swindon Town football club, and that’s a negative test result for an unnamed player for the club.

Manager Richie Wellens and director Paul Jewell were scheduled to hold a meeting with their players until it had to be cancelled due to a player feeling unwell.

Fortunately, a test was taken and the results returned negative with no coronavirus detected.

“Last Sunday I had a meeting with manager Richie Wellens and we were going to get the players in the next day and explain they would be having a few days off,” Jewell told a British newspaper.

“But one of the players wasn’t feeling well so we shut the whole place down.

“Luckily tests showed he hadn’t got the virus.

“We were due to start training again on Friday, but with the ruling about a further delay to any planned restart of the season we have put back the training for another week.”

Currently, the COVID-19 pandemic is hanging too many uncertainties over the sport, which makes planning and decision making more optimistic than certain.

Jewell added: “Even the most experienced managers in the country have never had to put up with anything like this. It’s bizarre.

"I sat down with Richie and we have to plan for something we have had no experience about. Meanwhile, players are climbing the walls.

“Normally at this time of the year, you’re looking to get the rest of the season out of the way and look forward to your holidays in the summer.

“I don’t think anyone can get their head around it. If we start in early May and we finish at the end of June with the play-offs to follow, it could then be the middle of July. Instead of going back for pre-season training some clubs, including ours, could still be playing.

“Many players would have booked their holidays. They might lose them and their money, which they can’t afford. Players’ contracts are up at the end of June and so you might have to ask players to go on playing longer without any guarantees of a new contract.

“It’s a real test for everyone involved in football; owners, chairmen, chief ¬executives, managers, players. No-one knows the answer because no-one has been here before.”
