Swindon Town chairman Lee Power keen to not rush making a new managerial appointment

Swindon Town chairman Lee Power has said he will not rush into appointing the next manager of the now League Two club.

Town have been without a manager since parting ways with Luke Williams on May 5 and, last Thursday, Power indicated they he hoped to have a new man appointed in eight days time.

Those eight days have now passed and no-one has been hired yet, although the club did approach Mansfield Town to speak to their boss, Steve Evans, but that was rejected.

Evans has since expressed his desire to stay with the Stags and that pursuit now seems to be over.

On the Evans saga, Power said: "We're trying to look for people with experience and people we think can get us out of this league and knows players at this level. 

"Steve's had a lot of promotions, he was one of the people we would have liked the opportunity to speak to but obviously he's under contract at Mansfield so we had to ask for permission for that and that wasn't given so we have to move on and go through the rest of the list."

Power said his shortlist is now made up of three people, but did not disclose who that is made up of.

Swindon have been regularly linked to Partick Thistle manager Alan Archibald, but no approach has been made to the 39-year-old Scot yet, while Steve Cotterill and Adi Viveash have stated they are not interested in the role.

When asked when he will have a new manager in by, Power replied: "I was hoping to be nearly there by this time, but that hasn't happened, for different reasons, so all I can do is be mindful of the time.

"I just want to make sure we get the right person and don't get rushed into doing something."
