Swindon Town bring in Liverpool midfield ace for an undisclosed fee

Swindon Town have completed the signing of Liverpool midfielder Jake Cain on a two-and-a-half year deal for an undisclosed fee. Total Sport’s Joe Acklam reports on the signing.

Cain, 21, has been part of the Liverpool academy since 2010 and made his senior debut against Shrewsbury in a FA Cup Fourth Round replay, a match they won 1-0.

The midfielder has been on the bench for the Liverpool first team on 13 occasions, without coming on, and also played 25 matches on loan at Newport County last season, in which he came off the bench at the County Ground in April 2022 during a 1-0 win for the Exiles.

Cain said upon arrival at the County Ground: “It’s a great feeling to be here and I’m really looking forward to getting involved, playing good football and winning games.

“This is a really promising team with a lot of talented young players who are hungry and ambitious, and I really want to be a part of that.

“I’ve come here for regular first-team football and to prove myself at this level, showing just how good I can be.”

Swindon were reported to be interested in Cain last summer, but were unable to complete the signing as Liverpool were looking to send him on loan to a League One club.

Swindon Town Technical Director Sandro Di Michele said: “I’m incredibly excited about the signing of Jake.

“He’s been with Liverpool from a young age and spent a lot of time in and around their first-team, and also had a productive loan spell in League Two.

“He’s a really talented footballer who is well suited to our style. He possesses great vision and has an eye for a pass, and is another young prospect that will get Town fans excited as we continue our push for promotion this season.”
