Swindon Girls to represent England on the world stage

This month, Swindon Town Football in the Community Trust Girls squad will be heading off to Sweden for the Gothia World Cup tournament. Feeling privileged to be taking part in such a prestigious event, the girls were hugely excited by the recent news that they have also been chosen to be England's flag bearers at the opening ceremony.

Swindon Town Football in the Community Trust delivers football and multi sports based programs. With support from local partners, the Trust strives to maximize people’s potential through sport and is currently engaging with an unbelievable 30,000 people across Wiltshire every year.

Shane Hewlett, Swindon Town Football Club and Swindon Borough Council’s Football Development Officer said, “The girls currently participating in the program have great potential and have excelled once again this season. Our participation in the Gothia World Cup is testament to their talent and potential.  Funding from our sponsors has been vital in helping us to give the girls the opportunity to continue developing their skills and allow us to consider taking part in such prestigious tournaments.”

“We want continue to inspire more girls to play football giving them the chance of structured teaching under the guidance of high quality STFC qualified coaches.  Newcomers will have the opportunity to participate in professional football coaching sessions and competitive matches. We’d love to hear from individuals who would like to get involved.”

Kevin Metcalfe, Chief Executive of Verelogic, said, “We are proud to sponsor Swindon Town Football in the Community Trust.  We are very pleased to see their continued achievements and wish them every success in Gothia. The girls have worked hard for the opportunity to take part in this tournament and it’s testimony to the passion and enthusiasm of the individuals at the Trust who support local children and young people to achieve and grow through the sport.”

Carl McCulloch, Joint Managing Director of TRAK Employment Solutions Ltd went on to say, “this is a fantastic opportunity for the girls to play against some of the best young footballers in the World and we are delighted to be sponsoring the project once again, and will continue to do so for many years. We have also been able to work alongside the coaching teams at STFiTC and have seen the effort put in by everyone involved. James Richards, MD, added “will be accompanying the teams to Gothia this year for the 2nd year running and we are confident of an excellent tournament.”
