Scott Lindsey was happy that work in training translated to the pitch

Scott Lindsey was pleased that his players took their work in training into the match as they won 1-0 against Colchester United. Total Sport’s Joe Acklam spoke to the Head Coach after the match.

Swindon dominated from start to finish but didn’t create as many clear cut chances as they would have liked prior to Tyrese Shade deflecting in the only goal of the game.

Lindsey felt Swindon dominated proceedings and enacted some of the things that they had worked on on the training ground.

He said: “I felt that we started faster than last week, which was something we spoke about before the game, so that was really pleasing.

“All the time that it was one-nil it is always nervous, so we wanted to put it to bed but that didn’t happen, and we needed to score more goals and make those final minutes less anxious.

“We did a lot of work in the week on playing in the final third and trying to get down the sides and in behind and create goalscoring opportunities.

“Whether it be slide pass or slipping someone in with intricate passing on the edge of the box to gets shots off.

“It is difficult sometimes because you play against teams who are defensively strong and you have to give credit to them and their new manager as he has clearly done some work with them.

“We did well not just shovelling the ball into the box when we have no chance of winning it, we were patient and crossed from the right areas today.

“We have worked on that this week and I felt Remeao [Hutton] certainly worked the ball and worked his runs better to put the ball in the box.”

Lindsey was also happy that Swindon saw the game out against a direct and physical opposition in Colchester.

He said: “I thought we did alright at seeing the game out because we didn’t concede.

“I was pleased with it because brought on big John Akinde towards the end and Frenchie [Mathieu Baudry] is in the treatment room now getting patched up.

“They put it on us and made it difficult for us and we managed to deal with it. I was really pleased with the attitude of the group all week after a loss.

“It is easy coming in on Monday morning after winning a game and the attitude and the way the team are with the atmosphere and the environment is always positive.

“I was particularly pleased this week with the environment after the loss, it was clear to see that the lads knew it was just a bump in the road.”
