Scott Lindsey was frustrated that Swindon once again failed to put a game away

Scott Lindsey was left frustrated as his side were once again unable to put a team to bed in their 2-1 win against Hartlepool United. Total Sport’s Joe Acklam spoke to Swindon’s head coach after the match.

Swindon burst quickly into a two-goal lead as Jonny Williams and Luke Jephcott both turned home crosses before Clarke Odour halved the deficit ten minutes later.

Lindsey was pleased that his side created plenty of chances but were only able to win by a solitary goal once again.

“The only criticism I have of my team is that we let them back into the game, they lost 6-0 on Tuesday and we were two goals up after 17 minutes, we really have to stick the knife in.

“It became an anxious game when it didn’t have to be as we created a lot of chances, [Jacob] Wakeling goes through, [Luke] Jephcott has a chance at the back post, and we had so many opportunities.

“The word I used before this game was complacency as I didn’t want it to be a part of the game today.

“I wanted us to be aggressive and professional and do everything right, but we relaxed a little bit in the wrong moment and didn’t defend the free-kick they put in and that made the game closer than it needed to be.

“I don’t want to get myself in trouble but I thought we should have had three penalties in the game, we don’t get them and we have to deal with that.

“I would be more worried if we were not creating these chances, but apart from when we played Rochdale and won three-nil, every game has been won by a single goal.”

Lindsey was, however, happy with the goals that his team did score as they were the moves that Town had been preparing all week on the training ground.

He said: “The biggest thing we can do to get more clinical is to continue working on the training ground as you saw us score from what we are working on today.

“We were really pleased with the goals, Jonny’s movement at the far post was brilliant and it was a great ball in.

“And the second one was kind of the coach’s dream because it is stuff that we have worked on.

“We worked on that exact action on Thursday, with Jephcott arriving at the near post and Remeao [Hutton] driving into a really good crossing position and then putting a great ball in.

“It was very pleasing when we have worked tirelessly on those actions, repeating them on the training ground that we have scored from it is a coach’s dream.”
