Scott Lindsey was frustrated that Swindon conceded early for the third straight game

Scott Lindsey was frustrated that Swindon once again conceded an early goal to make the game more difficult for themselves against Tranmere. Total Sport’s Joe Acklam spoke to the head coach after the game.

Swindon fell behind early on as Josh Hawkes coolly dispatched as he was played in behind, before Jacob Wakeling got on the end of Remeao Hutton’s cross to equalise.

Lindsey said that Swindon had spoken about not letting the opposition take that early advantage again and was disappointed to do so in a third successive game.

He said: “I suppose [the change in formation] might have had an impact, but we did speak about the fact that we had conceded a goal inside ten minutes in the last two games.

“We wanted to avoid that happening today and we did not achieve that, which I am disappointed about.

“We looked a bit open on that action and the left winger got in between our defenders, which is frustrating as we had worked on being tight and solid, especially in the early exchanges.

“But I felt that we bounced back really well and we were in control for most of the game, and we have to given them credit as they are a good side.

“I thought that added to the game and it was two sides playing an entertaining game of football.

“I think with the balance of the game we deserve more than just one point, but these sort of things even themselves out over the course of a season, there will be times where we win a game that maybe we didn’t deserve to.

“It was one of those games for us where we didn’t have loads of chances or many clear cut chances, but we made the ‘keeper make some big saves.”

Lindsey was pleased with the contribution of Hutton to the attack and how he has progressed so far this season.

He said: “He [Hutton] was outstanding again today and provided a real attacking threat.

“I think playing in a back three might suit him more than a four as he isn’t running from as deep and has less defensive responsibility.

“We work with him a lot individually, and I do a lot with him myself, alongside Marcel Lavinier, and we do a lot of work on their delivery in the final third.

“There are a few little rules that I have for if the ball is running out of play or what areas to put it into and if he is a little bit wider then what areas he is going to work it to.

“We do a lot of work with him and he is certainly seeing the benefits from that work we are doing.”
