Scott Lindsey said the only thing Swindon lacked was more goals against Newport

Scott Lindsey was delighted with how his team played in their 1-0 win over Newport County and could only fault that they didn’t get more goals. Total Sport’s Joe Acklam spoke to Swindon’s Head Coach after the game.

Luke Jephcott got the only goal of the game as he reacted quickest when Nick Townsend could only parry a shot and that was enough to give Swindon all three points.

Lindsey said his team were dangerous throughout the 90 minutes and all that was needed was to convert more of their chances.

He said: “I was really pleased tonight, we were very good throughout and the performance was really good with us creating lots of chances.

“If there is a criticism it would be the fact that we have not scored more goals as they always carry a threat with their long throw.

“The lads were outstanding tonight, we dominated the game from start to finish, we looked powerful, we were full of ideas, we were just great.

“I think we had something like seven shots parried by the keeper and we never got on the end of them, so we gave them the message that we needed to be a little bit more aggressive in those moments.

“And that is what he [Jephcott] does and he does it very well and he will score a lot of goals from doing that.”

Credit was also given to the player’s attitudes in being able to pick themselves up after defeats and get a result in the following match each time this season.

Lindsey said: “The fact we have always picked up points after losing this season says a lot about the group, we have leaders and really good people in the dressing room who will not accept mediocre professionalism.

“We have people who really step it up if there is a bit of sloppiness or if they feel there is a chance for us to win or if we might lose games back to back.

“They seem as if they have really got the bit between their teeth and they demand once we have lost a game that they need to win the next one without me having to say anything.

“We as a group of staff drive high standards and we have older players in the dressing room who drive high standards and that is why they have had such long careers.

“I think the lads who have come in from other clubs realise what the standards are at this football club and adhere to that.”
