Scott Lindsey said that the referee needed to do something about Crewe's time wasting

Scott Lindsey said the referee needed to do more to cut down the time wasting in Swindon Town’s 1-0 home defeat against Crewe Alexandra. Total Sport’s Joe Acklam spoke to the head coach after the game.

Daniel Agyei scored the only goal of the game from the spot as Swindon failed to convert the dominance of possession into goals.

Lindsey thought Crewe’s antics were to be expected, but the referee needed to clamp down on it far earlier in the match.

He said: “I think from 25 minutes they probably tried to take their time whenever the ball went out of play, which they are going to do, they are one-nil up away from home.

“I think there was more that could have been done [by the referee] to stop it, there was one moment where the ball hit one of their players on the far side and then about 30 seconds later he went down, just trying to kill time.

“You can’t blame them for doing that, but I also think that more could probably have been done to stop it, especially early on in the game.

“There is not much that we can do when a team tries to do that, we just have to play at a tempo which gives us control and be able to attack quickly, which I think we did.

“Sometimes in football you don’t get what you deserve and we didn’t get what we deserved today, we just have to wipe ourselves down and move on.”

Lindsey was also disappointed that this result came at a point where Swindon have a two week break before their next game.

He said: “It is not a good thing [having a two-week break], we want to get back on the horse as quickly as possible.

“After a loss like this you feel like you can’t wait to get back out there and put it right.

“It is so disappointing that we have lost this game and now we have got to wait for two weeks before we play again.

“But it is what it is, we will use our time efficiently and make sure that when we play again that we will be ready to go and try and get three points.

“We wanted to go into this break winning a game and in a good position in the table and then we can go into that break with a positive mindset.

“But now it seems like it is going to be a long time before we play again and we are going into it after a loss.

“I look at the table and still think we have had a good start and are in a healthy position, but today we are really frustrated.”
