PRESS CONFERENCE LIVE: Swindon Town v Tranmere Rovers

Good morning Swindon Town fans and welcome to Total Sport Swindon's live blog of this morning's Swindon Town press conference as the Robins welcome Tranmere Rovers to the County Ground tomorrow evening. Join our reporter Ryan Walker from 8.30am as he speaks to STFC Head Coach, Ben Garner ahead of the League Two clash.

9:00AM

That concludes today's press conference. Thanks for joining us.

8:58AM

Garner on Swindon defenders:

"We are really pleased with the players we have got in defensive positions and we have got really good flexibility there.

We can play a back four or back three no problem at all and we have good depth there.

We have different ways of playing in terms of whether our full-backs go forward or we want them to sit back more.

Romoney Crichlow was excellent on Saturday coming in for his full debut and it was great for him to get the goal, but for a 22-year old he is so assured and will have a top career in the game.

Dion Conroy has been very unfortunate with injuries but has been first-class since I walked in the door. He is still getting up to full fitness but is only going to get better as the season progresses.

We have got two outstanding goalkeepers and are really pleased with our defensive personnel."

8:55AM

Garner on League 2 strength:

"I think it is a strong league and every team poses a challenge. You look at the teams we have played so far and they are very organised and very fit, and know what they are doing.

There is no easy game in League Two. Cambridge got promoted last season and they lost 15 games. There are different styles of play in this league and we will respect every team in this league.

We won't have any fear and want to impose our style and we believe strongly in that. If we can do that then I think we can build and get stronger."

8:53AM

Garner on playing in front of home crowd:

"It was fantastic and I thought the atmosphere was incredible.

I was desperate for us to get the goal and more so for the fans. I think if we had got the second goal then the roof would've come off and that would've drove us on to get a third and win the goal.

It was disappointing not to get the win but there wasn't;'t much more we could do and it was just that final ball or final finish.

We want to do that in every home game and I hope fans enjoyed the performance even though the result wasn't the one we wanted.

The whole club is together and this is one club and the supporters are a huge part of that."

8:45AM

Garner on transfer targets:

"We had a long list of players between myself and Ben Chorley. We had a number of targets in each position and we are really pleased we managed to get lots of our top targets.

I'm really pleased with where we are but we want two more in forward areas. One I think will be done quickly and another who is our top target in a forward position is ongoing and we are just waiting for the player.

This team is a joy to play with and I think Tyreese Simpson has done great as he has chances every game. As long as he keeps doing that he will be fine.

We would like some competition for him and we are very open with who we are speaking to and have told targets to watch how we play."

8:42AM

Garner on Tranmere approach:

"We reflected yesterday on the three games so far. Looking at our stats we have got over 60% possession and our expected goals show we should be winning every game.

This just reaffirms to the players that there are so many positives in our game and we will be looking to just touch up on one or two areas.

We want to play well and win."

8:40AM

Garner on Alan McLoughlin stand:

"I didn't meet him personally but everyone I spoke to has said how great a man he was and how positive he was.

Harry Parsons looks up to him massively and I think it is a very fitting tribute."

8:40AM

Garner on Transfer embargo:

"We are only allowed a certain amount of registered players but we have to make sure we get the right players in.

Jonny Williams was a long process but if we get the right player then we don't mind it taking a bit longer."

8:39AM

Garner on injuries:

"Lyden and Baudry are the only ones we expect to be out.

Jordan Lyden's rehab is going really well. He's ahead of schedule which I've heard is normally the case but we have him in every day and his recover is going really well.

Baudry is a matter of days or weeks."

8:37AM

Garner on Kesler-Hayden absence:

"It was a shame for him to get sent off but that's a learning curve from him.

He was outstanding when he was on the pitch, it's not very often you have a right-back who can score a hattrick."

8:37AM

Garner on Tranmere:

"They have had a good start and there is a lot of experience in their team and a few lads that I know really well.

I'm pleased to see Tom Davies doing well after he was injured during my tenure at Bristol Rovers so it's great to see him doing well.

We know they are a very strong side with lots of game management."

8:35AM

Garner on player fitness:

"Ben Gladwin would be a risk to do 90 minutes on a Saturday so we don't want to take a risk on players fitness, we want him to play 30+ games this season.

We know where every player is fitness wise and now we have a Tuesday game as well and then a break which will allow us to improve players fitness in that break.

It's the situation we are in and finding the best solution possible. We've identified what we need to do and want to pick up as many points as possible."

8:33AM

Garner on set-pieces:

"Set pieces are really important in League Two and we work a lot on set-pieces.

It was really good to get a goal from a set-piece but it was disappointing to concede from a long throw.

We have to prepare very diligently but we want to be very clever."

8:33AM

Garner on Williams:

"He trained with us yesterday and we are just waiting for international clearance. He might be in for tomorrow."

8:32AM
