PRESS CONFERENCE LIVE: Swindon v Stevenage

Follow along with live updates as Jody Morris speaks to the press ahead of Swindon Town's clash with Stevenage. Total Sports' Joe Acklam reports live from the press conference.

11:07AM

That is all from today.

11:06AM

I asked Morris about if he thinks Austin will stay next season and if they think they can keep Hutton for next season:

  • I don't see why he wouldn't want to stay, but we haven't had that conversation yet.
  • I haven't been told of any interest and I can't see any reason why we wouldn't be able to hold onto him
11:00AM

Jody Morris on the project:

We will have to see where the next few weeks go. I don't think there is a place to be confident until people are actually signed up. I have been in football long enough to know you can't assume things. As far as confident I am and I am not. I think April isn't the time to think things are there as people aren't signed. I am certainly optimistic that things will get done, but we are having conversations this week to make it clearer.

10:58AM

Jody Morris on youth players:

Dworzak is one there are high hopes for, but I haven't seen enough of him. It is nice to involve young players and it was good to use Brown when RHM was out with tonsilitis. When there is a chance and people are deserving of it then you have to look at it. The one who is probably unfortunate is Dworzak.

10:57AM

Jody Morris on how much he is doing recruitment:

It is a balance. I have been looking a lot at what we are doing next year and there are conversations going on this week that need to be have. That probably needs to speed up though.

10:56AM

Jody Morris on Stevenage's press:

I think what we have been doing lately is varying our game better. I want to play football and play out, but not when it puts us at risk. If people want to get after the ball higher up the pitch, then if we can play then do it, but if we can take the sting out of it by going in behind then we should do that. That gets them off you and also can hurt them as well. It is about the balance.

10:54AM

Jody Morris on Stevenage:

We have encountered that physicality already, not as much as in this game, but late in games it has happened a lot. There is more than enough evidence to say we haven't stood up to it as well as we could have. But games like Leyton Orient we have dealt with long throws and things. We need to make sure we have bodies around. But there are two things we can do, one is trying hard to win those battles and putting pressure on them, but also staying on the ball and controlling the game. That is another thing we haven't done well enough when we needed to. I wouldn't mind sticking some players in a grow bag, but we know what is coming.

10:52AM

Jody Morris on Darcy being given the penalty:

It made me laugh as I said to Darcy after that I thought it was charitable. Austin said in the warm-up he would do that. It doesn't matter to me who scores but when you see that kind of thing it is nice. You don't score goals like Austin does by giving up chances to score. It is always better for the group when things like that are happening.

It is part of your responsibility to foster team spirit, handing over a penalty is entirely up to them, I am not sure he does it with the game on the line. Team spirit is everything in team sports, you don't get anywhere near success without that harmony. We have people like Austin who add to that, he was very good in the dressing room even without starting and I told him that afterwards. When you have experienced players who are helping younger players it helps myself and the staff as you can't hit every message.

10:48AM

Jody Morris on Williams and Austin:

They haven't come to me. I had a chat with Williams about it and I spoke to him a lot in January, without going into detail he has to make the best decision for him. I like him, but whether there is anything to be done there or not, I am not too sure.

10:47AM

Jody Morris on contracts:

No movement. I believe RHM has an option that is ready and same with McEachran we will absolutely be doing that. Those two and Brewitt have the options. Nothing with anyone else.

10:46AM

Jody Morris on RHM:

I absolutely want to work with him next year. I really like him as a kid. I was aware of his injuries when I came in and we have had to be cautious with him but I want to be able to push him physically to make him more robust. I have been pleased with his application and work rate and to get into better condition to be able withstand first team football. He deserves a lot of credit as well as the sports science guys. There is still a lot to come from him, he is really looking forward to the pre-season and it has been a while since he has been able to say that. You wouldn't be amiss to expect there is a lot more to come from him.

10:44AM

Jody Morris on injuries:

RHM is in today, so still feeling groggy but miles better than he was. We will see how he does. Williams is a doubt, he felt his groin a bit on Saturday so he is a doubt. There are a few niggles, but nothing serious. We will know more after today.

10:41AM

Just waiting for the call to begin now.

10:35AM

This was meant to be a Gavin Gunning game all the way back in January and I think this might have been the pressure is for tyres press conference. I doubt that will be bettered as a quote this morning.

10:33AM

What a difference a week makes, eh? Three unbeaten and two wins in a row for Swindon and I am very irritated I didn't go to Wimbledon. However, they are set to play a Stevenage team that needs this win as it could all but secure their promotion.
