PRESS CONFERENCE LIVE: Stockport County vs Swindon

Live updates as Scott Lindsey speaks to the press ahead of Swindon Town travelling to face Stockport County in the FA Cup First Round. Total Sport's Joe Acklam reports live from the press conference.

3:43PM

That is all from today.

3:40PM

Jacob Wakeling on his goal drought:

As I said before, I want to be scoring as a striker and that is what I will be judged on but I am not putting too much pressure on myself. I am still learning and I feel like it will come, I just need to see what I can do better but I will score goals.

3:39PM

Jacob Wakeling on the fans:

Their fans could help, but that could disadvantage them as the fans could get on their backs with the play we play to stop them playing well.

I think you can feel when a cup run is coming, with this team and these players I think something is going to come. I want a Premier League side.

3:38PM

Jacob Wakeling on Stockport:

From them when we played to now, we are a different team because of the time we have had and you can see that coming together.

3:37PM

3:37PM

Jacob Wakeling on the league position:

I think everyone knew how good we are, it just took a while to click and we just need to carry this forward.

3:37PM

Jacob Wakeling on the FA Cup:

I don't expect it to be too different to the qualifying rounds. Last year the team played Man City in front of a full CG and I want to experience that.

With Alvechurch I think we played Kidderminster and won and got to the fourth quali round. Just how much it means to those non-league clubs is huge and it was great to be involved in that.

3:35PM

Jacob Wakeling on playing wide:

The main thing for me is about impacting the game, you have to have the ball to feet a lot more, but it is nice the gaffer trusts me to play out there.

I am working on coming in and getting those shots off, whenever I get the chance I will shoot.

3:34PM

Jacob Wakeling on Jephcott:

You can see against Mansfield how good his movement is, we worked well with that and he is a joy to play with.

3:34PM

Jacob Wakeling on scoring:

I always want to score but if I am not scoring then what else am I doing? I came here to play so I can develop and get better each game.

3:33PM

Jacob Wakeling on last week:

I think it was a game where it all came together. Going behind after 30 seconds didn't phase us as we still knew we could win. Once we went in front it was complete control.

I think the formation helped as I am more comfortable in that position, but I just want to play and being with the likes of Jephcott and Williams makes it easier,

3:31PM

I asked about his cup record and Louis Reed's performance last weekend:

  • I don't think the previous games represent how we are going to play this weekend
  • I just think he needed a time out and last weekend he looked great
3:24PM

3:24PM

Scott Lindsey on Stockport playing mid-week:

It can gives us an advantage but I won't be looking too far into that. They played a tough game at Tranmere and got a good point. It can work in favour, but not every time so we have to prepare .

3:22PM

Scott Lindsey on finances:

Massive. 10k does [on 100k for the third round]. Clubs at this level need good support and we get that from the fans, sponsors and chairman, but it is nice to get those bonuses when we can get them because it all helps (shout out Tesco).

3:21PM

Scott Lindsey on FA Cup runs:

What is important is the finances of the club and it helps to chip away at debt and then in football we want to keep winning. It adds excitement on who we might get and then soon the big boys get in. It is the most important because it is the next game.

3:20PM

Scott Lindsey on managing highs:

The atmosphere has always been positive, even after losses. This week we had two really tough home games against Colchester and Hartlepool no matter where they are in the table, and everyone said how tough the away games were. We had two days to prepare for Mansfield and we turned up and put a show on, so we are all positive right now.

3:19PM

Scott Lindsey on the FA CUP:

I can't remember the year but I think it was West Ham v Arsenal. Trevor Brooking. One final that sticks in my mind is 87 Coventry Tottenham, I like the underdog and it was a really good cup final. In those days you watched the build-up all day and I think the magic of the cup was brilliant back then and it would be brilliant to see that again.

At the end of the day we want to win every game in every competition and keep improving for players to keep their shirts. If that takes us into the next round then that would be great.

3:17PM

Scott Lindsey on FBT's eye:

He has got a little strapping on it but is good to go.

3:16PM

Scott Lindsey on Stockport:

I feel they have got a bit of continuity now, I don't think he knew his best backline when we played them. They have played the same side for the last few games and are hitting form. They are a different outfit to last time, but so are we. We played well there and were unlucky to only get a point.

3:15PM

Scott Lindsey on compensation for him being away:

I don't know.

3:14PM

Scott Lindsey on Williams:

I believe he is available next week. We have to celebrate if he does get picked as he is a big player for us and we had a chat this morning about how much he is enjoying his football. We are going to miss him as he has been one of our better players, he has been brilliant.

3:13PM

Scott Lindsey on Jephcott:

He was probably a few weeks way from fitness and he probably understands what I want now. The movement from the forwards was emmense at times and Jephcott was great.

3:13PM

Scott Lindsey on Mansfield:

I believe in looking at all the stats that we have always been an attacking team. People might argue that we haven't scored lots of goals but we have always been in positions to score and after saturday we are the third or fourth highest scorers in the league. I have been happy with how we attacked and created opportunities and our xG has always been high.

3:11PM

Scott Lindsey on keeping the team:

There is an argument that we could do that, I do feel that that game was the formation and personnel was needed for that game and we looked like an attacking threat with two frowards and Williams in behind. That gives me food for thought for what we want to do, but we have a good squad and will be picking a team that can win.

3:10PM

Scott Lindsey on injuries:

Clayton has had a scan today, so we won't know until later today. So possible doubt (?) but hopeful.

Only the usual with RHM and MacDonald, Devine is in full training now so a big chance he could be involved.

We have asked about the loanees, so I know who is and is not available but I don't want to give too much away. Some of the deal we did the agreement was in there and with some we need permission.

3:08PM

Scott Lindsey is with us (after shouting at some noisy players).

3:01PM

The FA Cup obviously went rather well for Swindon last season for that heroic win against Crewe and little else. Apart from that it is hardly their favourite competition with the previous third round appearance being in 2012 against Wigan.

2:54PM

Good afternoon everyone, the magic of the cup is back and you can tell that because Swindon are playing a team in their own league.
